Sex-infused game gets adult rating

SAN FRANCISCO – The video game industry on Wednesday changed to adults-only the rating of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," a best-selling game in which explicit sexual content can be unlocked with an Internet download. The decision followed intense pressure from politicians and media watch groups, and retailers reacted swiftly – Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Target Corp. and Best Buy Co. said they would immediately pull all copies from their store shelves nationwide.

50 Cent takes his place on summer concert bandwagon

Hip-hop's best at being the baddest, 50 Cent is massacring the music charts and murdering the summer concert season. With his latest release, "The Massacre," going three-times platinum, 50 Cent is primed for a relentless touring schedule while in the midst of filming his first feature film. Fif is also hard at work remixing collabos with G-Unit Records' latest members, Mobb Deep and M.O.P, for songs to appear on the reissue of "The Massacre," due Sept. 13.

‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ proves visually robust but not too filling

Willy Wonka is a weirdo. As played by Johnny Depp in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," he seems like Michael Jackson channeling Carol Channing, a little boy of a man in a fop's outfit who teeters between innocence and mischief. It's a performance that likely will make the movie for some and make the movie miserable for others, but it's undeniably miles from Gene Wilder's original portrayal of Wonka in 1971's "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." Which is fitting because director Tim Burton's interpretation of the Roald Dahl children's book is also far removed from its predecessor.

Come for the music, stay for ‘Tron’

You know it's going to be one seriously hot party when it involves live jazz, funk, Latin, reggae and Celtic music, plus drive-in style showings of '80s classics "Tron" and "Roxanne." Add in a beer garden, rows of food and crafts vendors, and you've the makings for the sixth annual South Perry Street Fair along the South Perry Street corridor near East Ninth Avenue.

Deconstructing McLean’s masterpiece

Most everyone knows the approximate chorus to "American Pie." Whether those "good ol' boys" are drinking whiskey and rye, drinking whiskey and wine or if they drink their whiskey and cry, you don't change the radio station on "Pie."

Focus on maturity, not age, when choosing a partner

Q: I'm 23 and will be 24 this fall. Is it OK to date an 18-year-old, or do you think it's too big an age gap? Mia: In the eyes of the law, it's just fine. Just realize that not being able to take her to a bar is going to become a drag really fast. But perhaps true love triumphs over booze.

Meeting the parents calls for bravery

Thinking about a vacation Molly and I will take in four days, I am suddenly struck by how brave my fiancée is. We are traveling 1,500 miles to meet the parents. This won't be the traditional "come over for dinner and spend a few hours visiting with the kinfolk" kind of occasion. Molly has agreed to spend 10 days alternating between my dad and stepmom's house in Los Angeles and my mom's place in San Diego. (There's even a visit to Grandma in Lompoc thrown in for good measure.) Yikes. We're talking total immersion.

No room for making judgments when it comes to friendship

A cardinal rule of mine was broken at a party I hosted over the weekend. It's OK for me to complain about people I love, but it's not OK for others to do the same. It's disrespectful and judgmental, two traits I find hard to tolerate. We've all had people in our lives judge us or our choices at some point, but when it comes from our friends – the people we choose to trust the most – it can hurt even more. So was the case last Saturday when a friend I was throwing a party for decided to express her thoughts on my ex. She used words such as schmuck, self- centered and too nerdy for her taste, before I got up and walked away. Normally I would have said something there and then, but since it was a party in her honor, I chose to leave it for another time.

Pamper your skin for summer

We want bronzed complexions but know the terrible havoc the sun causes. We yearn for dewy summer skin but fear breakouts. Just when we got used to dramatic eyes and lips, it looks all wrong in warm weather. When seasons switch, it's time to change our skin care and makeup routine, too. Now, more than ever, beauty companies are offering products specifically formulated to protect, enhance and soothe summer skin and hair.

Stefani, Mario capture sound of 2005

Downloads were Gwen's world, while a super Mario hit dominated radio in the first half of 2005. Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" outsold all competition as the top downloaded track so far this year. Stefani also scored the No. 8 track with "Rich Girl." Total download sales hit 159 million, triple last year at this time.

Swing into summer with spangly danglers

I admit I resisted this season's bohemian trend at first. (Peasants! Sniff.) And this whole idea of "boho-luxe"? Yeah, right. But then the sun came out and I promptly decided I would live in flip-flops and flouncy ankle-length skirts all summer. (Fickle, thy name is Pamela.) Suddenly I am attracted to anything gold or turquoise or wooden or dangly, like oversize earrings that make me fear for my earlobes.
