Gonzaga stings Portland again with 3-point shooting barrage in 96-64 victory

The Kennel Club’s “We Want Tacos” chant usually surfaces later in the second half of games when Gonzaga is closing in on the required 10 3-pointers. The first chant Wednesday arrived late in the first half after Anton Watson made Gonzaga’s ninth 3-pointer. The fans didn’t have to wait long as Nolan Hickman served up coupons for free tacos by connecting from deep just 90 seconds into the second half.

Gonzaga, Portland seeking momentum in Wednesday’s clash

Two teams that haven’t had the seasons they envisioned collide Wednesday at the McCarthey Athletic Center. Gonzaga, accustomed to winning West Coast Conference titles and making extended runs in March Madness, trails Saint Mary’s by two games in the standings and currently doesn’t make the tournament in most bracket projections. Portland won 19 games in coach Shantay Legans’ first season, but year three has been up and down. The Pilots (9-15, 3-6 WCC) showed positive signs with a pair of wins last week after a rough 2-12 stretch.
