Public policy usually makes the Opinion page when people are anxious, annoyed or angry. Perhaps it’s a reaction to enlarged riparian setbacks or ranchers beset by animal predators while facing human pressure from single-minded wildlife preservationists. Or the ongoing conflict between salmon recovery planners wrestling for water with irrigators and electric power producers.

Daniel J. Morrissey: Musk’s tender odder raises large issues of corporate responsibility

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has apparently succeeded in his attempt to acquire the social media platform Twitter and take it private. At first Musk announced that he owned 9% of the Company’s stock and seemed ready to join its board. Then he reversed course and in an all-or-nothing move said he wanted to buy it outright. At first observers questioned whether Musk could raise the cash to buy all Twitter’s stock for $54.20 per share, a purchase price of $44 billion for the firm – making it the biggest takeover of a public company in at least two decades.

Commentary: Is my drug copay coupon a form of charity — or a bribe?

Before my insurer had even preapproved coverage of the new injectable medicine my doctor had prescribed, I got a voicemail from its manufacturer informing me that I might qualify for its copay assistance program. That meant the company would cover at least the lion’s share of my copay, leaving me with a minimal, if any, out-of-pocket contribution.
