A GRIP ON SPORTS • We looked around the house yesterday and realized one thing. Everything is getting old, including the occupants. But we knew the latter. The other stuff? Surprising. Our phone hardly holds a charge. The fridge is warming up, which isn’t a good thing. The carpet needs a refresh. Almost everything is frayed or creaky. Not unlike our favorite regional major league baseball team.

The car the woman was driving was still on the road at Spokane Falls Boulevard and Stevens Street on Sunday afternoon, less than a block from where games continued uninterrupted.

A GRIP ON SPORTS • Long before Hoopfest began in the early 1990s, we had figured out the perfect weather for a sports-challenging weekend. It had to do with muscles, unused during the week, and how they responded to the stress put on them over a 48-hour period. This weekend is nearly perfect in that regard.

After Laurie Koehn won her Hoopfest division last year – not to mention helping to coach her team to a Pac-12 Tournament championship – the Washington State University women’s basketball associate head coach wanted to add another Hoopfest win to her team’s record.

A GRIP ON SPORTS • At about 5:15 this morning, we witnessed a blast from the past. A car pulled up to our neighbor’s house, the driver popped out, opened the trunk and waited. Out came the neighbor, carrying his golf clubs. An early Saturday on the course? Certainly. Smart move.
