Assault suspect disarmed in scuffle outside West Central convenience store

A husband disarmed a suspect who allegedly threatened him and his wife with a handgun Saturday in West Central Spokane. Court documents say the couple was sitting in a truck parked outside Bongs Deli and Grocery at 2040 W. Boone Ave. when a suspicious man approached them. The husband shouted at the man, and the man responded by raising a 9 mm handgun to the husband’s temple and threatening to pull the trigger, according to court documents.

Woman arrested in downtown Spokane stabbing

A woman was stabbed Sunday night in an alley in the Browne’s Addition neighborhood, and a suspect was arrested nine minutes later, Spokane police said. The stabbing occurred after 7:30 p.m. in the 100 block of West First Avenue, according to a police news release. Officers arrested Naomi J. Zent, 18, at 7:47 p.m. after interviewing witnesses.

Jerome Curry Jr. converted to Islam while in prison in 2010, but he claims he’s hardly devout. He eats pork, drinks booze and gets high. He doesn’t attend a mosque. His rapsheet is long and varied; it includes more than a few charges for violent and reckless behavior. In January 2015, court records say, he was charged with intimidation for angrily threatening to “smash up” a corrections officer at the Spokane County Jail.
