The Kamloops Blazers postponed the Chiefs’ celebration by defeating the Prince George Cougars 7-4 Wednesday night in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Liberty, faced with technical difficulties, managed to clear everything up just in time on Thursday afternoon. Big plays by Chase Burnham and Kyle King, and the inside presence of 6-foot-5 Clay Fleming and 6-8 Match Burnham, who combined for 36 points, allowed the Lancers (25-2) to hold back Life Christian Academy 56-51 in a State 2B boys quarterfinal at the Arena.

With four weeks left in the Western Hockey League’s regular season, the Prince George Cougars appear to be the biggest threat to the Spokane Chiefs’ playoff hopes. Following Saturday night’s 4-2 victory over Moose Jaw, the Cougars (24-33-2-2, 52 points) have picked up points in six of their last eight games to close within six points of the Chiefs and five of Tri-City, the teams that would advance as wild cards if the season ended today.
