‘Killology’ kills empathy: Group protests now-suspended law enforcement training

A newly formed social protest group gathered Sunday afternoon to demand the Sheriff's Office cancel the planned appearance of a controversial police trainer. Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, a prominent law enforcement trainer whose philosophies are the subject of regular criticism, was set to host a “mindset bootcamp” event that included topics such as “combat preparation for your spouse and family,” active shooter situations and what makes a person a “winner,” according to a flyer for the event. Instead, he'll appear at a public forum, but protesters say he shouldn't be in Spokane at all.

Manito Park Bench Cafe serving Ben & Jerry’s ice cream opens

Ben & Jerry's was serving scoops Sunday and will move to sandwiches and other items on Monday at the popular snack spot in Manito Park. The Parks Department signed a quick deal with the business after their contracted concessionaire suspended operations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
