At Spokane watch party, ‘no doubt’ of victory in Women’s World Cup Final

Soccer fans filled Geno’s in Spokane’s Logan neighborhood bright and early Sunday to watch the American team play in the Women’s World Cup Final. The crowd of about 80 was excited and attentive as the game began at 8 a.m. Two hours later, the bar erupted with cheers, hugs and high-fives as Team USA defeated the Netherlands 2-0.

The incumbent in the Liberty Lake City Council race, Cristella Kaminskas, said her two terms give her important experience to make good policy for the growing city. But her opponents in the Aug. 6 primary say its time for change and say its not appropriate for her to serve on the same City Council as her father.

Explosion, fire shakes townhome near school

An explosion and fire burned part of a townhouse at 6307 N. Altamont St. next to Arlington Elementary School on Sunday. A witness said she knocked on the door, smelled smoke, then windows exploded just as she started walking away from the house.

Riverfront Park playground to prioritize accessibility

A playground focused on accessibility for disabled children is set to be built near the upper Spokane Falls in Riverfront Park. Early project plans and designs were presented June 12 to the Spokane Design Review Board by SPVV Landscape Architects, of Spokane.
