TACOMA – It wasn’t the ending the Gonzaga Prep boys basketball team envisioned. Not that a season-ending loss couldn’t have happened. But back-to-back losses wasn’t the way G-Prep expected to conclude the season.

TACOMA – How many more rabbits could be left in the hat? For a second night in a row, the Mead girls basketball team rallied from an 11-point deficit. Senior guard Chenise Pakootas’ putback with 5 seconds left lifted Mead past Garfield 54-53 in the State 4A tournament semifinals at the Tacoma Dome.

TACOMA – The pain was more severe this time for Gonzaga Prep senior post Ryan Nicholas. For the second year in a row, Gonzaga Prep lost a State 4A basketball tournament quarterfinal game in overtime – one the Bullpups probably should have won in regulation.

TACOMA – Each of the Gonzaga Prep boys basketball players got a knock on their motel room door at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. An hour later, they were at Curtis High School for a shoot-around. About four hours later they completed a thorough flattening of the Auburn Trojans, 65-33 in a State 4A tournament opener at the Tacoma Dome.
