Mike Leach a semifinalist for Coach of the Year

PULLMAN – Washington State football coach Mike Leach has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger Coach of the Year award, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Friday. Leach is one of 16 finalists, joining Pac-12 peers Chris Petersen of Washington, Kyle Whittingham of Utah and Mike MacIntyre of Colorado. Leach, who was named Pac-12 co-Coach of the Year in 2015, has guided the Cougars to an 8-2 record and an unbeaten mark in seven conference games.

Although the Cougars rank No. 20 in both the Associated Press Top-25 and the Coaches Poll, WSU only rose to No. 22 in the College Football Playoff Rankings that were released Tuesday evening.

On Sunday, River Cracraft showed up to his normal weight session in the Washington State football operations building with his teammates. He is around the team as often as ever, although his workouts now consist of rehab thanks to a torn ACL suffered in the third quarter of WSU’s win over California.
