Ski areas looking forward to more snow this month after strong end to 2019

Snow dumped on mountains across the Inland Northwest earlier this week, bringing upward of a foot of snow to ski areas that had seen a relatively slow, dry start to the season. Just about every chair lift at ski areas in the region was running Thursday – the latest among them Schweitzer’s Stella and new Cedar Park Express lifts. And most trails at resorts were open, or, if not, only in need of a little more snow coverage to be ready.

Spokane finds second-best thing to the Kennel at U.S. Pavilion watch party

As the clock ticked down to the final minute in the matchup between Gonzaga and the University of North Carolina, by all accounts the biggest basketball game every played in Spokane, at least 1,000 people under red and blue lights at the newly renovated U.S. Pavilion downtown cheered when ESPN announcers gave a shoutout to the fans left ticketless and out in the cold.

‘We are patriots’: Protesters rally for impeachment in Spokane

At least 600 pro-impeachment protests were planned around the nation on Tuesday, according to national organizers, and upwards of 30 people made their way to the Interstate 90 pedestrian bridge around 2 p.m. for more than an hour of sign waving. More than 200 people later gathered outside the Thomas S. Foley U.S. Courthouse for a pro-impeachment rally at 5:30.

State AG takes up case of disabled Spokane woman who died in care

The Spokane Police Department determined it couldn’t pursue charges in the case of a developmentally disabled woman who died in February after a caretaker gave her a lethal dose of vinegar instead of her medication, but the state attorney general’s office decided the case needed to be investigated further in August.
