Down by a point to Saint Mary’s and with the McCarthey Center crowd of 5,536 in full roar, the Bulldogs needed just one play to atone for the missed free throws, spotty defense and errant 3-point shooting.

Austin McBroom hit 8 of 12 field goals, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range, and finished with 25 points, and Venky Jois scored 24 with 12 rebounds to help Eastern Washington cruise to a 106-80 win over Southern Utah on Thursday night.

The football season has barely ended for Oakland Raiders running back Taiwan Jones, but he can’t wait for the next one to begin. Jones is back where he feels he belongs: in the backfield. The former Eastern Washington star had spent the last three years on defense and special teams, but got a fresh start with new Raiders coach Jack Del Rio.

The most prolific receiver in Eastern Washington history capped a season for the ages Friday night, winning the most prestigious award in the Football Championship Subdivision. With his family looking on in Frisco, Texas, Kupp was presented with the STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year Award, emblematic of the best player in the nation.
