Eagles learn patience against Aggies

DAVIS, Calif. – After seemingly gliding down the highway to Frisco, the Eastern Washington offense found itself in a traffic jam Saturday night. Almost 19 minutes into the game, the Eagles had exactly one possession and were trailing on the road against a UC Davis team that milked the clock, refused to make a mistake and generally tested their patience.

Eagles get untracked in 2nd half

DAVIS, Calif. – It didn’t take a stirring halftime speech to get the Eagle Express out of the station Saturday night. All Eastern Washington needed was the ball, which after 30 minutes of keepaway was finally pried away from UC Davis in a 37-14 Eagles win in a Big Sky Conference opener for both teams.

DAVIS, Calif. – Junior kicker Tyler McNannay made the most of his chances in his first start Saturday night. After missing an extra point following the Eagles’ first touchdown, the junior from Colfax came back with a confidence-boosting 27-yard field goal in the second quarter that gave Eastern the lead for good, 9-7. EWU can’t afford letdown against UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – The drama kings of college football surely could use a little less excitement this week, which can only mean that tonight’s Eastern Washington-UC Davis game will go down to the wire. Coming off an exhilarating 52-51 win last weekend at Montana State, the second-ranked Eagles will be fighting off an emotional letdown as well as a physical Aggies team in their Big Sky Conference opener.

Second-year Aggies coach Ron Gould couldn’t be happier as his team opens conference play Saturday night against second-ranked Eastern Washington.

EWU’s O-line earning top marks

Classes begin today at Eastern Washington University, where the football team’s offensive line just aced another pop quiz. For the fourth time in as many games, the line paved the way for 500-plus yards of total offense in a 52-51 win Saturday at Montana State. They looked even better on film, which assistant coach Aaron Best said graded out among the highest in his 18 years with the team.

Back with a purpose

Life is slowing a bit for Kelsey Turnbow – from frantic to merely hectic. A year ago, Turnbow spent part of her time playing soccer for the U.S. U-14 National Team and the rest on the varsity squad at Central Valley High School, helping the Bears to a State 4A title and picking up a few individual honors along the way.

More fun times for Eagles

BOZEMAN – As Vernon Adams likes to say, this game is supposed to be fun. And so it was Saturday afternoon – even with 1:55 to play, the Eagles down by seven and needing to go 73 yards against a feisty Montana State team backed by 19,377 fans and half that many cowbells.

Forte has big day in Eastern’s win

BOZEMAN – After one of the biggest days of his college career, it was almost unfair that Eastern Washington running back Quincy Forte was consigned to the sidelines at the end of the Eagles’ 52-51 win at Montana State. Midway through the fourth quarter, Forte picked up 7 yards on a first-down play, but his stomach landed squarely on the football and he was helped from the field.

EWU’s nonconference game with MSU still full of meaning

BOZEMAN – That’s funny, this doesn’t feel like a nonconference game, and it probably never will. As they warmed up at Bobcat Stadium on a pleasant Friday afternoon, the Eastern Washington players also warmed to the subject of a rivalry with Montana State that’s among the biggest in the Big Sky Conference.
