Chilberg Takes On Romanian Orphanage Former County Commissioner To Negotiate Takeover Of Children’s Home, Set Up Business To Support It

He's been a Spokane County commissioner and treasurer, budget director for Idaho and a growth management board member for Washington. Now Skip Chilberg is about to take on one of the world's most confounding bureaucracies: A Romanian orphanage. Chilberg plans to travel to Braila near the Black Sea in May to negotiate the takeover of an orphanage serving 70 children, ages newborn to 4. He'll also help set up an agricultural business to support the orphanage.

Many Give Hand In Clinic Opening

A new medical clinic in Romania will be a mini-Rockwood Clinic with a touch of Pathology Associates and Christ Clinic thrown in. Borrowing heavily from the practices, policies - and in some cases the storerooms - of Spokane clinics, laboratories and hospitals, volunteers plan to open a diagnostic clinic in Braila on May 16.

Phone Repaired 38 Days After Storm Woman Among Dozens With Dial Tone Again

While most of the Inland Northwest exchanged Christmas greetings, Jessie Salicis called distant relatives on a borrowed cellular telephone. Thirty-eight days after an ice storm brought down trees and power lines in Spokane, the Garden Springs resident was among 70 US West customers either without telephone service or with trouble on the line.
