Resident Appeals Weaver Inquiry Boundary County Man Says Local Investigation Of ‘92 Standoff A Waste Of Taxpayers’ Money

A Boundary County man has challenged a county decision to spend $100,000 for an ongoing investigation of the 1992 standoff between Randy Weaver and federal agents. Longtime resident Vernon Mace says the local investigation is a waste of taxpayers' money. He has filed a letter of appeal at the courthouse and wants a District Court judge to overturn the county commissioners' decision.

A Priest River rancher is crying wolf after finding a dead burro and two dead cows on his property. "We know it's wolves. We have no doubt," said Carol Henderson, who owns and operates a 580-acre ranch with her husband, Orlin.

Fifth-Grader Caught With Guns Bonner County 10-Year-Old Suspended After Weapons Found

A Bonner County fifth-grader was suspended Monday after teachers found two knives, a pellet gun and a loaded .22 caliber pistol in his backpack. "Apparently he was taking the weapons out to show his buddies and someone saw them," said Sandpoint Police Det. Andy Anderson. "The boy said he was conned by his friends into bringing them to school so they could look at them."

Wolf Dies In Coyote Trap Near Priest River

A wolf was accidentally killed in a trap north of Priest River Friday by animal control officers exterminating coyotes. "They were out doing predator control for ranchers and accidentally took a wolf," said Ted Koch, a Boise-based wolf recovery biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Explorer Rescue Unit To Be Formed

The Bonner County Sheriff's Department wants to team up with area teenagers and train the county's first all-youth search-and-rescue unit. The program, called Explorer Search and Rescue, is being launched today in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America.
