Badly burned as an infant, Nguyen had spent nearly a quarter century being shunned by the people in her small Vietnamese village. Her left hand was a bulbous stump and her face so badly disfigured she couldn’t open her mouth more than a sliver. Then 24, Nguyen clung to her American host, Carolyn Walchak, hiding behind the woman’s arm.

But it wasn’t the $450,000 loss that weighed on Bradley’s mind. It is the 50 or 60 brides who are left in the lurch for weddings this weekend, counting on T & R Party and Event Rentals for linens, tables, chairs, wine glasses, dinnerware, decorations and the like. All but a few tables and chairs were destroyed in the fire, including a 72-color linen collection known to be the largest in the Inland Northwest.

Dog’s attacker sought; $5,000 offered for tip

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information about a man who pulled a 5-pound dog out of a car and smashed her against Spokane City Hall. The 4-year-old Shih Tzu was in a Volvo on Post Street about 7 p.m. June 22 while her owners were at a movie, said Sgt. Dave Reagan, of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
