Support organization seeks volunteer drivers to transport veterans

Most of the veterans who need a lift to Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center don’t talk about what they did in the military, but they often talk about the far away places they ended up during their service. Deb Mallion, 61, has worked as a volunteer driver for the past six years. After having served 24 years in the U.S. Air Force, Mallion helps other veterans with a free van ride to the hospital through Disabled American Veterans, a non-profit organization that purchases the vans.

A team of attorneys representing Lockheed Martin Corp. asked a federal judge in Spokane this week to dismiss civil allegations that company officials misled the U.S. Department of Energy into a contract at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation that improperly netted the private contractor tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded profit.
