Last year, 14-year-old Clay Tucker watched his father pull out a gun and shoot at him. On Thursday, the high school freshman watched a bailiff haul his dad away in handcuffs - a convicted man.

Kootenai County Jail officials are scrambling. There are hundreds of meals to be served, tons of clothes to be washed, floors to be scrubbed and cars to be repaired.

An 86-year-old Post Falls woman was found frozen to death Tuesday after she fell on the steps of her home, according to county officials. Katherine M. Kea was found dead by her son-in-law who had come for a visit at about noon, according to a Kootenai County sheriff's report.

An armed robber had to pay for a pack of gum twice Tuesday night while he was trying to rob a department store. Coeur d'Alene police still are looking for the robber, who made off with an unspecified amount of cash from the Target store on Canfield Avenue.

They're crammed two or three at a time in small rooms, sleeping on floors and next to toilets. Their showers often are cold, and tempers flare easily under the pressure of close quarters.

A Plummer, Idaho, man was charged with second-degree murder Monday for allegedly stabbing his cousin at least three times with a filet knife. Frankie L. SiJohn, 25, also of Plummer, died Saturday night after he and his cousin Michael A. Samuels got into a fight at the Log Dog Bar in Plummer. The men were best friends.

Idaho law has a loophole so large you could slip a van filled with explosives right through it.

A fire on Saturday destroyed a fish-shaped bar and restaurant that was considered one of Kootenai County's landmarks. The Fish Inn - voted one of the best road bars in America by Road & Track Magazine - caught fire at about 5 a.m., said Idaho State Fire Marshal Glenn Lauper.

Sheriff's detectives arrested a 37-year-old Hayden man Friday on suspicion of murder. Frederick "Rick" Donohoe is suspected of killing a Kansas City man and leaving his body in a field six miles northwest of Hayden, said Capt. Ben Wolfinger of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department.

Sobbing, pleading for forgiveness and claiming to have found God, three North Idaho men were sent to prison Wednesday for their part in the theft of 500 pounds of dynamite. Kent Allan Johnson of Post Falls, Corey Lee Miller of Osburn, and Joseph TepnerGalland of Coeur d'Alene pleaded guilty to possession of stolen explosives.

A 42-year-old Hayden man was injured Friday after he pulled his car in front of an oncoming train. Frank Yetter's car was dragged almost 70 yards down the tracks, before it was dropped in a crumpled heap.

After years of abuse, more than two months behind bars and a two-week murder trial, Darlene Caba is finally free. On Friday, a jury of five women and seven men acquitted her of second-degree murder for the shooting death of her husband, James Caba Sr.

North Idaho drivers watched as their roads turned into flood zones Thursday. Officials shut down Ramsey Road between Dalton and Prairie avenues as water filled the major Coeur d'Alene thoroughfare. The sheeting rain and melting snow caused rock and mud slides on several area highways.

An overheated motor in a new refrigerator sparked the blaze that destroyed a summer home owned by Patty Duke and her husband, fire investigators said Tuesday. The couple bought the refrigerator this summer when they remodeled the secluded, three-story home on Lake Coeur d'Alene north of Harrison, Idaho.
