A 65-year-old man died Sunday after spending more than an hour submerged in Killarney Lake. The man, whose name was not released, was one of five men in a boat that overturned on the lake east of Coeur d'Alene, said Kootenai County sheriff's officials.

An 18-year-old woman was in intensive care and a 22-year-old man in jail Sunday after a wedding reception left him too drunk to drive, Idaho State Police said. Angela R. Underdown of Coeur d'Alene was in critical condition with severe head injuries as a result of a one-car accident Saturday night, Cpl. Sean Daly said.

An artist who was bludgeoned to death with an ax died at least 12 hours before he was found in his apartment, according to a coroner's report. William J. Smith, 69, was found dead in his Harmony House apartment at 5 p.m. on April 3.

The manager of the Harmony House apartments died Monday when someone bludgeoned him on the head in with an ax, Coeur d'Alene police say. William J. Smith, 69, was found dead in his room at 5 p.m. Monday.

An investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct ended Tuesday with the firing of a Kootenai County Jail deputy. The deputy, whose name has not been released, was fired for "conduct unbecoming of an officer," said Lt. Joe Eisenbrandt of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department.

A record number of inmates jammed the Kootenai County Jail Monday morning, leaving inmates sleeping on floors and tempers flaring in the cramped cells. Although the facility is certified to hold 123 inmates, 162 inmates were locked behind bars, said jail Lt. Joe Eisenbrandt. Nearby at the Juvenile Detention Center 31 youths were locked down. After 31 days in the hospital, Nicole Marlin finally came home Friday. "We wanted her home so bad," said Melinda Moulton, mother to the 2-year-old girl who spent almost an hour underwater in late February. "I think it will make her a lot better if she's around her family."

An accident at a dangerous Coeur d'Alene intersections left an 18-year-old woman in critical condition Thursday. Jennifer Stokes of Coeur d'Alene collided with James Peck of Newman Lake, Wash., at the Northwest Boulevard and Lincoln Way intersection.

For the second time in six months, a man has apparently brought potentially explosive devices to a health center near Kootenai Medical Center, police say. Although authorities would not release the name of the man involved in the two incidents, sources confirmed that John Weldon Jr., 25, is being held in protective custody in connection with the most recent incident.
