Whispers that Sheriff Pierce Clegg secretly bought three helicopters have been filtering through the grapevine for months. And now, these mysterious whirly-birds have made their way into the political fray.

County Asked To Pay For Defense Judge Denies Request To Fund Study On Death Penalty Cases In Idaho

The attorney for a Post Falls man accused of gunning down his ex-girlfriend is asking Kootenai County to pay more than $14,000 for his defense. John Adams, Kootenai County chief public defender, wants the county to pay for a university study showing that criminals in more populated Idaho counties are more likely to face the death penalty than criminals in less populated counties.

As Dozens Search, Three Hunters Find Way Out Of Woods One Of Man’s Two Sons Then Arrested On Outstanding Warrants

Tom Stiner Sr. figured his wife would be upset when he didn't return home Sunday night. But with darkness settling over the forest, two sons nearing hypothermia and his truck an eight-mile hike away through the snow, the Post Falls man thought he'd better stay put. Sure enough, his wife did get scared - enough to call out the Kootenai County Search and Rescue. More than 30 people, a helicopter and a search dog combed the Fourth of July Pass area from 2 a.m. Monday until about 1:30 p.m. looking for the three elk hunters.

Spokane Hunter Also Spends Night Lost In The Woods

A Spokane man burned a pack and some of his clothing Sunday night to keep warm after he got lost in the North Idaho woods. William R. Stuart, 26, was hunting north of Prichard in the late afternoon when he started tracking a bull elk and got lost, according to a Shoshone County sheriff's report.
