Boy Dies From Gunshot Wounds

A 4-year-old Kootenai County boy died Tuesday from wounds he suffered when his father accidentally shot him 10 days before. Grayson W. Drew died at Children's Orthopedic Hospital in Seattle of multiple organ failure, said Dean Forbes, hospital spokesman. On April 15, Joseph F. Drew was target practicing with his .22-caliber rifle at the family's home on Loff's Bay Road. The youth suddenly ran out in front of his father, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department. Grayson Drew was shot in the wrist and chest and was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. On Saturday, he was transferred to the Seattle children's hospital, where his condition slowly deteriorated, Forbes said. His liver had been damaged by the bullet, Forbes said. The boy then suffered from liver failure, which caused the other major organs to shut down, he said. The sheriff's department determined the shooting was accidental.
