Driver In Fair Condition After Accident

From Staff

A Hayden man remained hospitalized in fair condition Monday after his pickup drifted across the center line and slammed into an oncoming lumber truck Sunday.

Kenneth Paulsen, 19, was taken to Kootenai Medical Center shortly after the 5:15 p.m. crash. The truck collided on U.S. Highway 95, about 10 miles north of Coeur d’Alene, according to the Idaho State Police Cpl. Phil Broesch.

Paulsen’s wife, Melena, 20, was treated and released, according to a medical center spokesman.

Debris from the crash struck a Pontiac Firebird driven by Richard Essary, 28, of Post Falls. He was not injured.

The 1989 Freightliner lumber truck was driven by Peter Tod, of Delta, British Columbia. Broesch said Tod, 47, was not injured.
