Powter’s Book Riddled With Misinformation
Nutritionists at Tufts University have taken a close look at diet guru Susan Powter’s hot-selling book “Food” and found it wanting.
“The book is sloppily researched and riddled with outdated information, errors of omission, and factual mistakes,” they say in the April issue of the university’s Diet & Nutrition Letter.
For example, Powter recommends vitamin B5 for better skin. However, there is no such nutrient, say the nutritionists.
Also, her low-fat menu is low on vegetables and calcium. “Her menu as a whole provides only about 35 percent of the calcium women need in a day,” the newsletter states.
