Simpson Trial Celebrities Seeking Lives Of Their Own
Loose talk
Dudley Moore on his love life (in Playboy, 1983): “I haven’t had that many women - only as many as I could lay my hands on.”
He won’t go away, and Kato Kaelin likes it like that. But not every former intimate of O.J. Simpson is seeking the spotlight.
Take Paula Barbieri, for example. Simpson’s last steady date has withdrawn from all the attention being lavished on the trial. Why? Says the 26-yearold aspiring actress’ manager, Tom Hahn, Barbieri “refuses to use someone else’s fortune for her gain.”
Was that meant as a knock on perennial houseguest Kaelin? Of course not - we think.
“Not to say anything disparaging about what Kato is doing,” Hahn said, “but he is a clown. He’s having fun. Paula is serious, she goes to church, she reads the Bible. She’s a good actress; she’s not a bad actor like Kato.”
His hands still boast a few good years of grab
Dudley Moore turns 60 today.
Any day now: The Tom Hanks Method for Weight Control
Two-time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks, star of the forthcoming “Apollo 13,” had a tough time smiling during the film’s simulated weightless scenes. The scenes were shot aboard a KC-135 jet set in steep dives. “I think I know now what giving birth is like,” Hanks said. “I was so sick one day that I could have sworn I was having a baby at 35,000 feet.”
It hurts when I do this, Dr. Babs! Well, stop doing that
More humor from Bill Maher of Comedy Central’s “Politically Incorrect”: “Barbra Streisand is going to be awarded an honorary doctorate,” he said. “Wow, Streisand a doctor. And you thought you waited a long time to see her when she was just a singer.”
Maybe he wanted to earn a little extra pocket money
Author/attorney John Grisham, who has a new book - “The Rainmaker” - ready for release, is also returning to court. His client is the family of a conductor killed while on the job for the Illinois Central Railroad Co. “I’m pretty rusty, but I’ve got some lawyers who are helping me, and think it’s going to be challenging,” Grisham said.
Dad is all set to star in, ‘Rambo, the Grandfather Years’
The news: Sylvester Stallone has proposed to steady Angie Everheart. The reaction: “When Angie called Ginnie to tell her the good news, she said, ‘Mom, I’ve met someone just like Dad,”’ said the future bride’s father, Bobby Everheart, who has yet to meet the movie star. Nevertheless, he added, “This guy will fool you. He’s intelligent and articulate, not what you’d expect.”
With those genes, the kid’s bound to be a looker
Kim Basinger, 41, is expecting a baby with husband Alec Baldwin, 37. Basinger, who is due in November, withdrew from the Robert Altman film “Kansas City” because the movie’s insurance handler didn’t want to assume the risk of her condition.
