Magic Johnson, hoping to play in the 1996 Summer Olympics, refused to rule out a return for the 1995-96 National Basketball Association season.

“I’ve learned to deal with the (HIV) virus, which I didn’t know what was going to happen when this all first went down,” Johnson said. “What I know now, if I had known it then, I probably would have never retired. But those are things you have to go through. So we’ll see what happens.”

Mobil, a track and field sponsor since 1981, pays approximately $11 million annually in sponsorship fees.

It has been the title sponsor of both the indoor and outdoor Grand Prix circuits, the indoor and outdoor U.S. Championships and an indoor Grand Prix meet in Fairfax, Va.

Mike Knuble, Craig Charron and Jon Morris each had a goal and an assist as the United States defeated Austria 5-2 in a pool B opener for both teams in the World Hockey Championships in Stockholm, Sweden.

Canada defeated Switzerland 5-3 in its pool A matchup.
