$6 Million Man Is Coming Back

The Hollywood Reporter

He’s big. He’s bionic. He’s back.

Yes, the Six Million Dollar Man is heading for the big screen, although at today’s prices he probably will cost considerably more.

Universal Pictures has put a film version of its famed 1970s television series into development with Kevin Smith (writer-director of “Clerks” and “Mallrats”) attached as the writer, sources confirmed Monday.

Richard Anderson, who played Oscar Goldman in the series, will be the executive producer for “The Six Million Dollar Man” and, in all probability, will act in the film as well.

“The Six Million Dollar Man,” which starred Lee Majors and aired from 1974-78, spawned a wave of superheroes on TV in the mid-1970s.

The Universal series concerned Steve Austin, a U.S. astronaut who was badly injured in the desert crash of his moon-landing vehicle.

The government decided to save his life with a new type of operation in which certain human parts are replaced by atomic-powered electromechanical devices.

Now a cyborg, Steve is set out on dangerous missions for the Office of Scientific Information, battling international crooks and mad scientists.
