Delk Reaches Milestone As Uk Beats Tennessee

Tony Delk scored 19 points, becoming the 42nd player in University of Kentucky history to collect 1,000 points in a career, and the fifth-ranked Wildcats (9-1 Southeastern Conference, 16-3) overpowered Tennessee’s Volunteers (2-8, 8-11) 68-48 Wednesday night in Knoxville, Tenn.

Tennessee’s leading scorer and rebounder, 7-foot center Steve Hamer, went out with a knee injury 76 seconds into the game. That left Volunteers coach Kevin O’Neill with six scholarship players.

Sophomore James Collins hit a driving jumper on the baseline with 22 seconds left, lifting the Seminoles (4-6 ACC, 11-8) to their victory over the Demon Deacons (5-4, 14-5) at Tallahassee, Fla.

Lawrence Moten matched his career high with 32 points, including 22 in the first half, when the Orangemen (10-1 Big East, 17-3) shot 75 percent from the field on the way to their easy victory over the Friars (4-7, 12-7) at Syracuse, N.Y.

Moten was 9 of 12, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range, in the first half as he crept within 19 points of Derrick Coleman’s school record of 2,143 points.

Freshman Kendrick Moore made two free throws with 11 seconds to play at Columbia, Mo., where the Tigers (6-2 Big Eight, 17-3) rallied from a 12-point deficit to deal the Cyclones (3-5, 17-6) their fourth straight loss.
