It’s Official: WSU Signs Stinson

Davenport High School’s multisport athlete Jennifer Stinson officially signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play volleyball at Washington State University.

Stinson, closing in on the alltime state basketball scoring record, was recently selected the 1994 Inland Empire Junior Female Athlete of the Year. The 6-foot-1 senior led the Gorillas to State B basketball titles in ‘92-93, and the state volleyball title in ‘93.

The Cougars also announced the signing of Jennifer Canevari, a 5-9 outside hitter from St. Mary’s High in Stockton, Calif., and Nakkia Hubbert, a 5-9 setter/outside hitter from Bakersfield, Calif.

Shannon Blott and Holly Horn, who played for State AAA champions from Spokane, signed letters of intent to play volleyball at the University of Montana.

Blott, a 5-8 outside hitter, led Lewis and Clark to the state title last November. Horn, a 5-9 outside hitter, played for Shadle Park during its championship season in 1993. Horn competed last season at Oregon State University.

Eastern Washington University announced the signing of 5-9 setter Toni Schwinn of Toutle Lake High and 6-1 outside hitter Deann Benson of Prairie High in Vancouver, Wash.

Football: Ray Butler, a defensive back/wide receiver from Morningside High in Inglewood, Calif., signed a letter of intent to play at Washington State.

Butler, who had five interceptions and 67 tackles during his senior season, runs the 100 meters in 10.43 seconds.
