Protest Over Location Of Tidyman’s Dropped

An attorney has withdrawn the appeal of zoning approval for the planned Tidyman’s store on Argonne Road north of Interstate 90.

Attorney Steve Eugster withdrew the appeal Jan. 27 after Tidyman’s disclosed a traffic study showing that Argonne Road traffic would not be adversely affected by its store.

In December, the county’s hearing examiner committee approved a request by Tidyman’s Warehouse Food Stores to consolidate zoning of its six-acre building site in the commercial category. The multiple parcels assembled for the building site had been zoned differently.

On Dec. 23, Eugster filed an appeal for GVL Investors Partnership, a San Francisco-based investment company that owns Argonne Village. The appeal claimed that the store would generate more traffic than the roads could handle and hurt nearby businesses.

“We provided studies that showed that even under the absolute worst situation, the store did not degrade the traffic flow on Argonne,” said Mike Davis, Tidyman’s chief financial officer.

After reviewing the information, Eugster said, “We had a level of comfort that made it unnecessary to go forward with the appeal.”

The appeal did not stop Tidyman’s from pursuing its building plans, Davis said. He said that groundbreaking could take place in late spring and that the store would open in October or November.

The proposed 50,000-square-footstore would cost about $6 million to build and stock.
