Yellowstone Wolves Held In 1-Acre Pens

After being snared, darted, caged, poked, drugged and jostled during a 500-mile trip from Canada, eight wolves brought to Yellowstone were able to stretch their legs Friday inside one-acre pens.

The pens, set up in Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley, will be the wolves’ home for at least six weeks. Once the animals have acclimated to their new surroundings, the plan is to release them into the wild.

For now, the wolves will be fed chunks of road-killed elk, bison and deer that park officials have been stockpiling in a freezer.
