Cash Wins Tiebreaker At Liberty Lake

Three-week President’s Cup competition ended for Liberty Lake Ladies 18-Hole golfers with a playoff to break a first-place tie.

After scoring a net total 224, Gloria Cash won the tiebreaker with Billie Etter to win the Cup.

Etter was first flight winner by 10 strokes over Marlene Thies.

Second flight went to Freda Beckman at 231, four strokes ahead of Ets Yamada.

Donna Ogilvie’s net 230 won third flight over Jody Cantrell by five strokes.

Fourth flight was won in a tiebreaker by Jan Stewart over Ethel Rankin who both netted 233.

Fewest putts winner was Freda Beckman with 95.

During play of the day, Linda Begler and Diane Hicks shot low gross 91 and Cash netted 73 in A flight.

Beckman shot 99 in B flight with Mabel Watkins and Ogilvie netting 77. Barb Hafner and Marge Doyl had 108 in C flight and Stewart netted 77.

D flight winner was Barb Midkiff at 112, while Jan Krogseth netted 77.

Hangman has handicap tourney

Hangman Valley Ladies Club conducted a two-round handicap tournament, won by Kelly Waltenbaugh with a net 144.

She beat Beckman by a stroke in first flight. In second flight Marie Nelson shot 149 to beat Fran Nord by a stroke.

Ogilvie edged Margaret Brashears by two shots with a 147 in third flight. Betty Dalzell shot 157 to beat Barb Buteux by two strokes.

During medal play, Janet Lang, Pat Lundquist and Sue Henley all had low gross 99 scores to lead their respective A through C flights. Marion Pearson shot 115 in D.

Net winners were Nelson and Dorothy Womach at 76 in A, Brashears with 76 in B, Joyce Mohler with 73 in C, Peggy Burt and Gloria Heminger with 78 in D.

Valley View President’s Cup begins

President’s Cup tournament began for Valley View Ladies Club golfers last week.

First-round net scores included Sue Matsui’s 36 in A flight, Edith Rains’ 34 in B and Carol Maycock’s 36 in C.

Low gross leader during the outing was Marty Liebelt with a 49.

Painted Hills golfers brave rain

The weather was nasty and scores followed suit. Painted Hills Ladies Club golf results reflected the cold, windy and rainy weather with Danice Deckard’s 52 the best of the day.

Carol McLean and Virginia Lemmer shot 62 in B flight. Nancy Mullenix had 66 in C and Cleo Workland a 77 in D.

Net leaders were Marilee Codd who netted 40 in A flight, Arleen Espe who had 51 in B, Dorothy Dinius who had 48 in C and Cindee Corrick who had 49 in D.

Liberty Lake 9-Holers

It was business as usual for Adrienne Shoemaker who shot 46 in A flight during Liberty Lake Ladies 9-Hole competition.

Polly Soderquist had 50 during B flight medal play, Min Gutterud shot 49 in C flight and Joan Bernhart had 58 in D flight.

Net winners were Sylvia Riggin with 31 in A, Merilyn Lloyd with 32 in B, Joan Koppe with 28 in C and Vi Bormes with 32 in D.

Valleyite wins state gymnastics

Valley resident Libby Smith, 10, won the USA Gymnastics Level 7 state championship in Issaquah.

Competing in the child division compulsory competition, Smith was first all-around after competing in four events.

She is a member of Lilac City Gymnastics Center and was one of 287 state participants from throughout the state.
