They Boldly Blow Where No Cast Has Blown Before

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

In the new collector’s edition magazine “Star Trek: Four Generations of Stars, Stories and Strange New Worlds,” the cast is still complaining about one thing or another.

For example, Nichelle Nichols goes on about William Shatner’s lack of humility.

“Bill felt above us. Worse yet, he felt above the fans,” says Nichols. “That skit on ‘Saturday Night Live’ where he tells fandom to ‘Get a life’? That sums up how he feels toward the people who made him a millionaire: Send money, but go away, and leave me alone.”

DeForest Kelley hates to be reminded about his trademark line. “Everyone still yells it to me, especially in New York,” he says. “People on the street yell it, and cabdrivers lean out their windows (and say), ‘He’s dead, Jim!’ I just hope it doesn’t end up on my tombstone.”

Faye Dunaway on movie treats (to a convention of theater owners in Las Vegas): “What’s all this nonsense about air-popped popcorn? I’ve been eating greasy popcorn for years and I still look nice.”

Under all that tie-dye, he still believes in magic

John Sebastian turns 51 today.

Funny, many readers say they feel the same way

Author Erica Jong has a little problem whenever she finishes writing. “At the end of every book,” she told New York magazine, “I feel like killing myself. You think you’ll never write one again. Until you use up the advance.”

One look at early ‘Valerie’ episodes confirms that

Valerie Harper, who among other things is active in her 14-year-old daughter’s PTA and owns a West Hollywood Italian restaurant, likes to diversify her civilian interests. “Show business is not my life,” she told the New York Daily News.

She cut her musical teeth out on Max Yasgur’s farm

Betsy Brooks, who has toured with her brother Garth’s band since 1990, is heading out on her own. “I love his stuff, don’t get me wrong,” she told CountryBeat magazine. “I would rather play with him than a lot of country artists… but I’ve also done Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, you know, I’m kind of like a Woodstock baby.”

Even after all that, she hasn’t a prayer of snaring it

While appearing on the radio show hosted by Los Angeles personality Rick Dees, Madonna on Wednesday explained the lengths that she has gone to in quest of the lead in the film project “Evita.” “I have only been on my knees for five years,” she said.

Against mom’s wishes, Brooke’s out to net her a husband

One word out of the Brooke Shields camp has the perennial starlet breaking with her long-time manager, mother Teri Shields. The reason? Shields’ romance with tennis star Andre Agassi. “I intend to marry him,” observers quote the actress as saying.
