Toney Stops Hembrick

Former two-time world champion James Toney captured the USBA light heavyweight title, dethroning Anthony Hembrick after five rounds of a scheduled 12-rounder in Las Vegas.

Toney, 46-2-2 with 31 knockouts and the former IBF middleweight and super middleweight champion, won when Hembrick refused to leave his corner for the start of the sixth round.

Rick Parker, a boxing promoter being investigated by the FBI for allegedly fixing fights, has been shot to death. A former opponent of George Foreman has been charged with the slaying in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The former boxer, Tim “Doc” Anderson, who was outside the hotel room, handed a .38-caliber handgun to authorities and admitted to the shooting, according to police reports.
