Top Runners In Regional On Saturday

Boys State AAA champion Mead and girls State AA champ East Valley each will send two runners to Saturday’s Foot Locker west regional cross country championships in Fresno, Calif.

Morgan Thompson and Jason Fayant, who led Mead to its eighth consecutive state title, and Angie Simmers and Ann Marie Adams of state-title repeater EV will compete against runners from 11 other western states

State AAA individual winner Isaac Hawkins and runner-up Paul Harkins, both of Ferris, are also among the 60 area runners making the trip.

The Lilac Bloomsday Association donated airline tickets for the top 15 boys and girls runners from the Oct. 28 regional/district meets.

Bloomsday-sponsored runners (not already noted) are Jennifer Smith, Jill Johnson, Emily Hawkins and Dave Schruth, Ferris; Jenni Saling and Brandon Larson, Central Valley; Stephanie Goaslind and Katie Pollock, Mead; Lindsay Daehlin, Shanna Delong and Taraka Campbell, University; Jessica Riehle, Heather Harmon and Clayton Holmes, West Valley; Jennifer Rea, Clarkston; Rebekah Paulk and Ryan Johnson, Lewis and Clark; Jon Caballero and Justin Hill, North Central; Cameron Hatch, Rogers; Chris Henderson, EV; Jim Rucker, Gonzaga Prep; Christian Laugen, St. George’s; and Casey Perry, Shadle Park.

The top eight finishers in each race will advance to the Dec. 9 nationals at San Diego.
