Eighth-Grader Shoots, Kills Fellow Student

Compiled From Wire Services

A 14-year-old eighth-grader fatally shot a fellow student between classes Friday.

Keith Johnson exchanged words with Joey Summerall, 13, before shooting him at Tavares Middle School, Police Chief Norbert Thomas said.

“Johnson pointed the weapon at Joey Summerall and began firing a semiautomatic pistol, shooting numerous times even after the victim had fallen to the sidewalk,” Thomas said.

He fled after threatening other students and was arrested when police chased him into an orange grove. He was charged with murder and turned over to juvenile authorities.
