Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

Jim Price Correspondent

The 50th Playfair Mile does not offer 50 easy ways to leave your worries at the wicket. The obvious best horses Royal Frolic, Secret Past, Super Ciel and Slewty want to be in front. Most of the others, principally Big City Lights and No Small Buzz, want to be close.

That leaves only Gotto Go Charlie, who used to be this good, and Ought To Burn, a $2,500 claimer three months ago, near the rear. Logic says at least one of them will earn a big piece of this. Handicapping, giving strong consideration to spring form against last year’s winner, Native Rustler, says Secret Past is best at the distance. Don’t take a short price on any of them.

Monday, with four double-digit winners, was a fine day.

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: $2 daily doubles pairing FLUFFING’S MISS and TIME TO SCAT with WILDSIDE WILLY, CHIVALRY ISNOTDEAD and T R COUNTRY BOY ($12).

FIFTH: $10 to win on SENOR HOUSE and $5 quinellas with SESSION’S REPO, FLEET TRIAD and BIG REC ($15).

SEVENTH: $5 quinellas pairing DELIGHTED PAUL with NOBLE REIGN and MACKEE’S MY NAME ($10). $2 twin trifectas pairing DELIGHTED PAUL and FRIENDLY FLYER both ways with NOBLE REIGN or MACKEE’S MY NAME twice ($16). Exchange to ROCKET’S GUN and SCATS LAD both ways to TOUCHA FLIER.

EIGHTH: $5 quinella box of ROCKET’S GUN, SCATS LAD and TOUCHA FLIER ($15).

NINTH: $5 quinella box of SECRET PAST, SUPER CIEL, OUGHT TO BURN and NO SMALL BUZZ ($30).

TENTH: $1 trifecta pairing LANDALEAR and WHISPER O SMOKE both ways to HICKORY STICK, IMPRESIVE PROSPECT and GALLOPFORSCALLOPS ($6).

Original bankroll: $2,000.

Monday’s result: Won $138.40.

Present bankroll: $1,999.80.
