Highway Improvements Proposed

The state Department of Transportation is holding an open house next Thursday to obtain public comments on proposed improvements to Mount Spokane Park Drive.

The $4.9 million project will widen the road, also known as State Route 206, between Highway 2 and Bruce Road, change the Mount Spokane Park Drive/Market Street intersection, and put in a pedestrian shoulder near the new Mount Spokane High School.

The open house is being held to get comments on alternatives for the Market Street intersection and straightening Mount Spokane Park Drive near Lowe Road, project engineer Ted Trepanier said.

Work will begin in late December or early January, Trepanier said.

The project is happening in part because of the expected increase of traffic on Mount Spokane Park Drive when Mount Spokane High School opens in September 1997. The school district is contributing about $300,000 toward the project, Trepanier said.

The open house at Colbert Elementary School, E. 4625 Greenbluff Road, begins at 6:30 p.m.

Call Trepanier at 921-2402 for more information.
