Michigan quarterback Brian Griese was suspended indefinitely from the football team and appeared in court for arraignment on a felony charge stemming from a weekend incident in which he allegedly smashed a bar window.

An athletic department spokesman said the matter is being treated as alcohol-related, which mandates suspension.

Magdalena Maleeva, kept on the run by an opponent ranked 58th in the world, lost 6-1, 6-3 to Barbara Schett in the second round of the Bausch and Lomb Championship at Amelia Island, Fla.
