Why Chai?
Latte? Passe. These days, the truly fly are sipping chai.
Oregon Chai (rhymes with “eye”) is an Indian-inspired concentrate of black tea, honey, vanilla bean, fresh ginger and such spices as cinnamon, cardamom and clove. It’s mixed with milk (or milk substitutes), in equal parts, for a rich, sweet, hot or cold drink.
If you’re truly brave, try a “chai charger” - spiked with a shot of espresso.
Price: Around $5-6 for 1 quart of concentrate (makes eight 1-cup servings).
Available: Bountiful Fresh Foods, Hallett Farms Gift Pax and Lorien Herbs & Natural Foods; also sold by the drink at Bountiful, Hallett Farms, Spazzo’s Espresso and the Rocket Bakery (both locations).
