Post Falls Kicks Off School Bond Campaign
Election campaigns for school bond levies are kicking off in Post Falls and Lakeland.
In Post Falls, supporters of a $15.8 million bond levy to build a new high school gathered at the Post Falls High School cafeteria Tuesday to launch a campaign effort for the March 26 election.
Cort Wilcox, co-chairman of the campaign steering committee, said about 150 people attended the rally.
The campaign slogan is “Everyone Wins,” because a new high school will increase space for students throughout the district. Grade levels would be realigned to spread students among the district’s schools.
“We feel our most serious opposition will come in the form of the Idaho law that mandates a two-third’s supermajority for passage,” Wilcox said.
Voters will have the option to vote in an additional $1.95 million bond levy to build a community/school auditorium, an athletic field and to purchase cafeteria equipment for the refurbished middle school.
In Lakeland School District, a Community Task Force is being formed to begin an informational campaign for the $9.3 million bond levy election scheduled for March 19. An organizational meeting of the task force is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Lakeland High School commons.
The Lakeland bond issue is designed to build a junior high school in Spirit Lake, and make additions and improvements to other schools. Patrons will have the option of voting for an additional $650,000 bond to start a hot lunch program in the district.
