Sugarboom At Ichabod’s North

With so many first-rate bands popping up in the Northwest, it’s often hard to keep up with them.

Portland’s Sugarboom has been carving out its own dark, swirling, psychedelic guitar rock for five years. But the four-piece combo, which plays Ichabod’s North on Thursday, has yet to really garner the appreciation it sorely deserves.

Underappreciated and highly underrated, Sugarboom has been overshadowed by high-profile Portlanders like Everclear, Hazel, Super Deluxe, the Dandy Warhols and a host of other bands.

Sugarboom will have a new album out soon. The band’s 1994 debut album “Planer” scrapes the bottom of murky, melancholy rock. But it’s not a total downer, thanks in part to the sweetly sung vocals.

Spokane’s Roadside Prophets open. Show time’s at 9:30 p.m. Cover is $3.
