Doll Wars: Barbie Vs. Supermodels

From the European catwalks comes the latest battle in haute couture; Claudia Schiffer vs. Barbie.

Pawtucket, R.I.-based Hasbro Inc. said it is introducing a new line of its Sindy doll to feature the heads of real-life supermodels Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Karen Mulder.

The doll war pits the models against All-American favorite Barbie, made by Hasbro rival Mattel Inc. The world’s largest toy company recently tried, and failed, to buy No. 2 Hasbro for $5.2 billion.

The 11-1/2-inch Sindy currently is sold only in Europe. The supermodel Sindy was unveiled in a Nuremberg, Germany, toy fair this month.

Hasbro has yet to decide if the Sindy supermodel doll will be sold in the U.S.
