Alpine skiing

Schweitzer features Boardfest this weekend with a dual slalom Saturday and a half-pipe competition Sunday. The competitions carry a $15-$20 entry fee with $500 in prizes. And as long as you’re in the area, check out Sandpoint’s Winter Carnival with events from pizza-eating contests to baby crawls. Info: 208-263-9555.

Nordic skiing

Methow Valley should be busy with the Intermediate Classic Clinic for semi-experienced skiiers who want to learn the old diagonal style Saturday at 10 a.m. and the Rendevous Mountain Marathon on Sunday (30 or 42-kilometer races, $30, only experienced nordic skiiers). Info: 996-3287.

Spokane City Parks Department groomed the Indian Canyon and Downriver trails this week. Info: 625-6200.

Newport, Priest Lake and Mt. Spokane expect excellent conditions.

Snowmobiling

Mt. Spokane is open and groomed. Expect well-groomed trails - groomers covered over 100 miles last week. Snowmobiling information line: 456-5786.

Priest Lake again boasts excellent conditions and expects a busy but not overcrowded weekend.
