1997 Indy Sold Out

Compiled From Wire Services

There’s no apparent backlash from the IndyCar split at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, at least not in ticket sales.

The Indianapolis 500 next year will be sold out as usual, Speedway spokesman Bob Walters said.

Most of the top Indy drivers and teams boycotted the May 26 race because of a controversy over qualifying spots.

Championship Auto Racing Teams, which sanctions the rival IndyCar series, staged a race in Brooklyn, Mich., on the same day as Indianapolis.
