Seniors Week Lots To Do At Schweitzer

This is Seniors Week at Schweitzer Mountain Resort, where guests 55 and older can enjoy five nights at Green Gables Lodge, four days of skiing and a variety of other activities, including a wine tasting, “kinder and gentler” downhill race, receptions and a dinner with the 150-member Prime Timers Club.

Also on hand during the week will be skiing legend Otto Lange, one of the original Austrian instructors at Sun Valley, Idaho, who helped energize skiing in the United States. Lange recently finished a biography and will be signing books and giving a talk.

Back in time: Move among buffalo herds in a covered wagon, with tours offered by the Woolly Prairie Buffalo Company.

Celebrate daffodils: A parade that is part of the Daffodil Festival will travel through Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting, Wash., from April 13 to 20. It will include daffodil floats, classic cars, marching bands and drill teams.

Mayan ruins: Washington State University is planning two visits to Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula to visit Mayan archaeological sites.

The 14-day tours begin May 11 and Oct. 26. Costs range from $1,722 to $2,686 per person.

Kitsap Peninsula: Several weekend getaways for couples and families are offered on the Kitsap Peninsula, only 30 minutes from Seattle by ferry.

Collectibles: The Yakima Valley Museum is showing private collections, including toy fire engines, lunchboxes, squished coins and 1962 Seattle World’s Fair souvenirs.

The show, “Collecting: The Instinct for Order,” explores who collects what and why. The exhibit will run through April 28.
