Parents Dislike Plan To Modify Schedule

From Staff And Wire Reports

Putting kids on a modified schedule to make room in the elementary schools got the thumbs down from parents who attended a community meeting Monday night.

A Coeur d’Alene committee of parents and principals presented options for making room in the schools to an audience of about 300.

Most people approved of placing more portable classrooms at the elementary schools. But that solution won’t help all the schools.

Members of the committee have repeatedly warned parents that some children have to change schools next year because of the inevitable uneven growth.

That appeared to be preferable to year-round school or having some students attend in the morning, and some attend in the afternoon on a staggered schedule, according to straw vote results.

The committee will make a recommendation to the school board later this month on how to accommodate the anticipated growth next year.
