Bonner County Seeks $5.6 Million Levy
Bonner County school trustees have agreed to put a $5.6 million levy to voters next month.
“We were unanimous that this is something that needs to be done,” said board member Willard Osmunson.
“The levy committee put in a lot of time and started with a list of more than $20 million worth of needs. That was pared down to $5.6 million and what I think are the bare essentials for this district.”
The two-year levy will actually be split into two parts. One proposal includes $1 million to build an additional four classrooms, an office and cafeteria at Kootenai Elementary School. The district now has only enough money to build a four-room school which will not help alleviate overcrowding at other elementary schools.
The second part of the levy proposal calls for $4.6 million to pay for 10 new buses, building maintenance and instructional materials for teachers.
The levy will go to voters April 23. In May, Bonner County also plans to ask voters for about $4 million to build a new jail. , DataTimes
