Contest Winner Accepts With Grace
This year’s Spokesman-Review Oscar-contest winner knows how to deliver an acceptance speech.
“Oh my God,” said Tim Mulligan, an ex-Spokane resident now living in Richland. “I’m stunned. I’m amazed. I’m just honored to be included with the other applicants.”
Mulligan correctly guessed 18 of the 24 categories, missing only Best Picture among the major awards. He guessed “Babe” instead of “Braveheart.”
Shaun Flanagan of Spokane placed second with 17 correct guesses. And two other Spokane residents, Joy-Lyn Cottam and Roger Gordon tied for third with 16 wins. The contest attracted 370 entrants.
All winners receive movie gift certificates: $100 for Mulligan, $50 for Flanagan and $25 each for Cottam and Gordon.
What was Mulligan’s secret?
“I don’t know,” he said. “I just kind of guessed on a lot of it. That was what was fun this year, I think. You just had to use your instinct and go for it.”
