Greater Spokane League champion Ferris survived a second-game scare to defeat fourth-seeded Eisenhower on Friday in the opening round of the Eastern AAA Regional volleyball tournament.

Ferris prevailed 15-5, 9-15, 15-4 after the Cadets took advantage of five Saxons service errors in game two.

In the deciding game, the score was tied at 4 when Amy George served nine straight points as the Eisenhower attack broke down.

Mead made quicker work of Pasco, winning 15-9, 15-12, although the Bulldogs made a late surge in the second game to pull within a point, 12-11.

Lewis and Clark defeated Walla Walla 15-6, 16-14 and Davis overcame Rogers 15-5, 11-15, 15-9 for the Big Nine’s only first-round success.

LC meets Davis at University and Ferris plays Mead at Central Valley in winner-to-state matches at 10 a.m. today.

Losers’ bracket matches are at both sites at 11:30 and 1 p.m., with all play at U-Hi at 5 and 6 for the seeding battles.

Missy Blackshire had 15 kills and seven blocks for Ferris.

After Pasco got within one of Mead, Alisha Simchuk’s kill gave the Panthers a sideout, and two kills by Jessica Sanborn made it 14-11. Cheryl Adam’s tip won it.

Sanborn had 11 kills.

Frontier League

Colville defeated Pullman 15-8, 15-10 and East Valley beat Clarkston 15-3, 15-3 in first-round matches at EV.

The winners play for a state berth at 11:30 a.m. today at EV after the losers meet at 10. The title game is at 3 p.m.

A Paige Quistad kill ended the first game for Colville. The Indians came from behind in game two, powered by two aces from Raejean Hedrick and a block by Nicole Welfel.
