‘Kfc Of The Future’ Scheduled For Sprague-Sullivan Corner

A new Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant will open next spring at Sprague and Sullivan.

The 2,700-square foot eatery will face Sprague and will be at the northwest corner of the Sullivan Square shopping center, in front of the Best store, franchise owner Sam Sibert said.

He is still waiting for the final building permits to be issued, but Sibert said construction should start in three weeks and is expected to be finished by April.

When completed, the $900,000 restaurant will look very different from most KFC restaurants, Sibert said.

“It will be the KFC of the future and there are only a dozen of them in the U.S.,” he said.

The company’s new design will incorporate blue into the traditional red-and-white color scheme, he said. The stucco building will have blue and red as the main colors with white and beige accents throughout the dining room.

The Veradale restaurant will be the first outlet in Washington state with the new KFC design, he said.

The restaurant, which will seat 60 people, will employ approximately 40 people in full- and part-time positions. The new restaurant replaces the KFC near Pines and Sprague that burned.

“We’re taking advantage of that to move to what will probably be a better location, the location of the future,” for the Valley, Sibert said.

Sibert owns six KFC restaurants in Spokane and 11 near Seattle and Olympia.

Open house at Hallet Farms

Hallett Farms and Cafe will have its annual open house on Saturday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be free samples of cookies, pickled lemons, Auntie Ruth’s brownies, Red Lion barbecue sauce, Mt. Dome champagne and Hallett’s homemade candy and holiday blend of coffee.

Cindy Hallett, the store’s owner, said it’s an easy way for residents to try local and regional foods. There will be door prizes and special prices on the sampled items.

SCORE offers counseling

The Spokane chapter of SCORE the Service Corps of Retired Executives - now offers free counseling to would-be entrepreneurs and new business owners.

The volunteers will help develop business plans and discuss ways to complete market studies and methods of financing the business, said chairman Doug Kindred.

“What sparked our interest in the Valley was all the new businesses popping up,” Kindred said. “New owners can’t always afford to go to somebody for professional advice.”

The counseling sessions, which are by appointment only, take place in the Valley Chamber of Commerce offices.
